Where you are now

  • You have clients. You have a process. You're on autopilot.
  • Every session starts to look like the last one.
  • You open your portfolio and feel nothing.
  • You know exactly what you'll shoot before you arrive.
  • You call it a style. Deep down, you call it a rut.
  • Your camera is an extension of your hand — but not your vision.

Where you leave

  • 7 days of shooting you've never done before.
  • Professional models who challenge your direction, not just your settings.
  • Studio light that rewires how you see any light.
  • Madeira's volcanic landscape as your new frame of reference.
  • A portfolio that finally surprises you.
  • The clarity to raise your prices and mean it.

You already know
how to shoot.

This retreat is not for photographers who are learning to hold a camera. It is for photographers who hold a camera every week — and somewhere along the way, stopped surprising themselves.

You built a business. You have returning clients. You have a workflow that works. But creative stagnation doesn't care about your booking calendar. You feel it anyway.

InSight. Family is a 7-day reset designed specifically for working family photographers who are ready to break their own visual patterns — through daily model sessions, professional studio lighting, raw Atlantic landscapes, and real-time creative feedback.

Not a course. Not a workshop.
A creative breakthrough, structured.

01 You shoot family or portrait sessions professionally — meaning clients pay you, not the other way around
02 You understand your camera — you shoot manually and you know what you're doing technically
03 You feel the creative plateau — your work is consistent but no longer excites you
04 You are ready to be challenged — to direct, to experiment, to fail and try again
05 You can invest in yourself — financially, and for 7 full days away from your routine

This is not for everyone.

You will NOT find here

  • Beginner camera tutorials or technical basics
  • Relaxed lounging by the pool between sessions
  • Generic "photography inspiration" content
  • Group shoots where 8 photographers circle one model
  • A program designed to please everyone
  • A certificate that proves you attended
  • Comfortable repetition of what you already know

You WILL find here

  • Daily dedicated shooting time with professional models
  • Individual feedback on your work every evening
  • Studio sessions with professional lighting setups you direct
  • Outdoor sessions in locations you will not find on Google
  • Creative discomfort that produces breakthroughs
  • A small group of 5 photographers who push each other
  • Work you will actually want to show the world

One day in Madeira
looks like this.

Madeira is not a backdrop. It is volcanic, subtropical, oceanic — a landscape that does not forgive passive looking. The light here is unlike anything you've worked in. The Atlantic horizon at 6am. The black sand and green cliffs. The laurel forest where fog moves like a living thing. You will not shoot the same way you arrived.

Morning

The light arrives before you're ready.

Golden hour outdoor session. Natural light, real locations, professional model. You direct. You experiment. No safety net, no template. Just you and the frame you build.

Afternoon

The studio doesn't lie.

Studio lighting session. Strobes, modifiers, intentional setups. You learn what you don't know about light by working with it — not watching someone else use it.

Evening

The image that surprised you.

Portfolio review and group feedback. What worked, what didn't, why. Real conversation about real images. The kind of critique that moves you forward — not polite applause.

And you have 7 of them.

Every day
has a purpose.

Iryna Vereskun

"I didn't create this retreat to teach you photography.
I created it to give you the conditions to discover
what you already know — but stopped using."

Iryna Vereskun is a Ukrainian photographer based in Madeira, Portugal. Co-founder of Stelmakh Studio, she built her career across television production, editorial and portrait photography before rebuilding her practice entirely — after the war in Ukraine forced her to start over in a new country, in a new language, with nothing except her eye and her camera.

She studied under fashion photographer Rudy Arias and has worked in production with Shutterfly, gaining commercial-level experience in photography workflows and systems. She has shot across Ukraine, the United States and Portugal, and now works from Madeira — where the light, the landscape and the isolation have shaped a very specific way of seeing the world.

She is not interested in giving you a formula. She is interested in breaking the one you already have.

Before you apply.

What level of photographer is this designed for?

+
This retreat is for working photographers who already earn money from their work. You understand your camera, you shoot in manual, and you have real clients. You do not need to be a master — you need to be ready to be challenged. If you are still learning the basics, this is not the right environment for you yet.

Do I need to shoot family photography specifically?

+
InSight. Family is focused on portrait and family photography as a genre — working with real subjects, real emotion, real connection. If you shoot weddings, portraits, or lifestyle, the skills and creative reset are equally relevant. The model sessions are designed to push how you direct and connect with subjects.

How many photographers will be in the group?

+
5 photographers maximum. This is non-negotiable. The entire program — the individual feedback, the 1:1 model time, the quality of the creative environment — depends on keeping the group small. You will have real space, real time, and real attention.

What camera and equipment do I need?

+
Bring your own camera — whatever you normally shoot with. You do not need new gear. All studio lighting equipment is provided and set up for sessions. Bring at least two lenses you are comfortable with. Everything else — location access, models, backdrops, modifiers — is provided.

Can I come alone? Is this a group trip?

+
Most participants come alone. The retreat is designed so that coming alone is not only comfortable — it is often more transformative. Without your usual context, your visual habits shift faster. You will be sharing a villa with 4 other photographers who are there for the same reason you are.

What is your cancellation policy?

+
50% deposit is required to confirm your spot and is non-refundable within 60 days of the retreat. Cancellations more than 60 days before the retreat receive a 50% refund of the deposit. Your spot can be transferred to another photographer — please contact us to arrange this.

What is included — and what is not?

+
Everything is included except your flight to Funchal, Madeira. Accommodation, all meals at the villa, airport transfers, models, studio equipment, all locations, and all sessions are covered by your investment. You land, we handle the rest.

Your portfolio
is waiting for
a different week.

Applications are reviewed personally. Not everyone is accepted.
